Baby Black Mamba Kills Two Dogs – Home Owners Narrow Escape!
HOME OWNERS NARROW ESCAPE AS BLACK MAMBA KILLS TWO DOGS.
Late yesterday afternoon I received a panicked call from a resident in the Pinetown area about a black mamba in their garden.
The home owner has seen his two Yorkshire Terriers investigating something and when he went over he saw a small dark snake. Then noticing one of the Yorkies starting vomiting he second guessed trying to pick up the snake as he confirmed “Herald Snakes” wont cause a dog to become violently ill.
On the way I was then told they had this “mamba” on the end of a long metal pole – racing to the property as no other snake catchers in the area could respond or wanted to field the call. I was told both dogs were on the way to the vet but within 10-15mins both dogs had died before the vet could begin much treatment.
Needless to say the homeowners could have easily killed the snake in frustration or grief to the now death of both of their dogs.
Arriving I simply used a small hook stick and placed the snake safely into a snake tube measuring this new born BLACK MAMBA at 54cm! Black Mambas will hatch out their eggs and move off immiedately the “mother” will not hang around and the babies are out to fend for themselves and the female can lay around 20 eggs at a time.
