Averaging 30cm adults may reach just over 60cm.
Description:
An attractive and highly variable stocky snake a single distinct horn above each eye (these may be very reduced in some individuals). Occurring in an array of colours from peachy orange, grey/white, sandy brown, rich reddy-pinks and light brown with dusty blues and greys associated with bold blotches/markings across the back. Common and widespread snake across much of the arid regions in South Africa. Favouring dry sandy soils and rocky grassy associated hill sides in some parts. A popular snake in the reptile trade these animals are collected in high numbers but due to their requirements many don’t survive long due to poor husbandry. A cytotoxic venom which can lead to extreme pain, severe swelling, and localised neurosis.
Anti-venom:
Anti-venom is not used or effective in the treatment of these bites.
